The Stretch Me Chair
Furniture Prototype, 2016
The Stretch Me chair is a chair that is about stretching the rules of construction and the visual rules for a classical stick-chair, according to the danish type.
The stretchy rubber string, braided from the seat out to the back sticks, holds the construction together. The only static part is the frame and the legs.
Visually it looks like a static stick chair, but the one who takes a seat is taken by surprise with its flexible back and seat. When you take a seat and lean back the sticks flexes with you because of the elastic string.
This makes a comfort, but also a movement as you integrate with the chairs structure and shape. To sit in a chair is normally a very static action, witch leads to a bad posture and The Stretch Me Chair makes your sitting more active and makes you aware of your body and posture.

"We live in a time where information, impressions and thereby influences are shared with the whole world in a
matter of seconds. This has made us wonder: What will define the root of design in the future; and will a single
design culture be recognizable and able to stand out?
́danishdesign MAKERS ́ is an alliance of designers with different nationalities and backgrounds, but all with
strong ties to the Danish design culture. We believe that Danish Design values honesty, simplicity and function,
and that these values reflect the beauty of the outcome. ́MAKERS ́ believe that design is a foremost practical
subject and it is best to keep it this way. We will continue this tradition and for the future let a hands-on
experience define Danish Design and tell its story.
A picture says more than a 1000 words; a well-made prototype can’t lie!"

The furniture prototype The Stretch Me Chair was created by Ellinor Ericsson at the Danish Art Workshops - SVFK.
It was made together with Carpenter Søren Risvang and with some great help from Frank Jensen to drill some very precis angeled holes in the metal work shop (as you can see in the video!)
Thank you SVFK for the opportunity and great craft help!
